[1303] Testing the “Ultra Slash Resistant” FlexSafe (AquaVault)

If you were wondering which knife I used, this is it: www.offgridknives.com/blackmamba

Honestly I just want to see you take a pair of generic craft scissors to these things, just to see if they can even stop that

    Acum 5 ore

You got this one wrong! You are NOT slashing it, you are stabbing it. Try slashing it with the blade, not the point of the knife to see if you can penetrate it that way. This would be a truer test of what they are claiming.

  5. EtaCarinae230

    Acum 15 ore

you are supposed to use a spoon!

  6. absolut_height_advantage

    Acum 16 ore

I think you’re mistaking slash resistance and stab/cut resistance. Perhaps taking a swipe at it is the more appropriate test.

I think most of the companies are using a different test to determine slash resistance. I bet they are using more of a draw cut, rather than LPLs puncture and "saw". saw in quotes because gatdamn that is a sharp knife.

The bag is supposed to keep your things safe. That's why it has a lock. The reason for the "slash resistance" is to prevent people from cutting the bag open. There's not a criminal in the world who won't use the same method as LPL is using. That's how you cut into things.

if you want an actual slash resistant one, make a bag out of chainmail and then put cloth on both the inside and outside it'll still be flexible, although heavy, and you can have it in a size where you can use it for larger objects such as laptops or what have you the only way to break the links is to pierce them or hit them very hard with a hammer and risk damaging what's inside, which is undesirable

  69. Dan Vanson

    Dan Vanson

    Acum 2 Zile

Gunna be honest, you're not "slashing" any of these, you're stabbing them with quite a lot of force and then cutting. Being stab proof is 10000x harder than being slash resistant

    • Dan Vanson

      Dan Vanson

It says that it has an Ultra slash-resistant material. Not that the product is completely slash-resistant It's like, this armor plating uses titanium plating. ye we know that titanium is bulletproof. But they never really said that the titanium was gonna stop the bullet, and the titanium ends up just being a really thin layer easily shootable

  78. Joe Branson

    Joe Branson

    Acum 2 Zile

Here's the thing. I think you always make a great point highlighting the shortcomings of security products but I do take issue with how we are defining "slash" here. To me a slash is a cursory strike with the blade edge as opposed to a full on deliberate stab and slice using the point of the knife and using all the mechanical advantage of someone who has stolen or who owns the bag. I'd be interested to see how these companies' "slash resistant" fabrics fare against more of a cursory slash compared to something like denim or leather. For this, being attached to a boat or something means an assailant would indeed have the time to go to town on this and use their knife far more deliberately. I'm not sure how common it is for aspiring thieves to casually try to cut open a bag and let the contents escape while close to the owner. Not throwing shade or anything but I wonder if the legal definition of "slash resistance" is the problem here and could mislead consumers into thinking their stuff is essentially knife-proof for all opportunistic thieving purposes.
