This truck selling for around $40,000 is just as, if not more, impressive to me than the C8 corvette actually selling for $60,000. Hopefully they are actually able to meet that price point because I think this is super compelling for a lot of people to make the switch to electric. There are literally zero downsides for most people, and speed, running costs, and extra storage space are all major upsides.

MOST consumers don’t want a futuristic looking car/truck. They just want a simple modern electric vehicle with convenient features. Ford has done exactly that 👌🏽

I like the fact that its mostly a conventional interior, even still has a standard shifter. Still has the giant screen but also has regular buttons and a knob or two. Of all the wretched things Tesla has spawned the worst is having to control everything from the screen and have an interior devoid of knobs and buttons. Now other automakers are doing the same thing. NO! Kudos to Ford for not blindly following in elons sterile bland footsteps.

so now they have installed cameras to watch while you drive...that's a good one...also did anyone notice that the racing game made the system unresponsive for a split of a second?....that's what i call quality...it's kind of funny that this thing gets less towing capacity the bigger the battery is...FAIL...this thing can power a house for one week?...i don't think so...i would love for someone to test this theory...this truck seems a little unfinished if you ask me...seems rushed...also they should have installed a very small diesel generator in case you get stranded.....this is really not a very practical truck at all

  20. Rotor Head

I'm tired of hearing people call the new F-150 Lightning a "Generator." It is not a generator. In an emergency one is using it as a power supply. Not a generator. Storage vs. Production. Learn the difference.

That would maintain the battery at best. Someone did the math, it would take about 2 months to charge to 100% using such a small surface area (when only around 50% of it is exposed to the sun at any time)

I have no problems with going electric as pertaining to vehicles, however our current electrical grid cannot handle the amount of power that automobile companies want to sell in the US. The Texas grid completely failed in the ice storm last year. I believe Texas has less than 3% electric vehicles on the road compared to all vehicles. If we had 15 or 20%, electricity would be much more expensive and the current system would have to use rolling blackouts like California. We are just not there! Also, these vehicles are not green at all-Batteries are made of Lithium and the bodies are plastic! Also most electricity is till produces by burning coal and natural gas, not renewable sources. Maybe 40 years we will be in a better place for the amount of vehicles for 50% of the population!! just my educated opinion. Thanks

Why do they have to use cameras to track the driver's eyes? Tech already exists that can track your eyes using near infrared light such as Tobii tracker. This is the same as Tesla; they want to record the drivers in case of accidents to cover their behinds let's not kid outselves.

Here with the same ol' gripe: Why can't these people get a screen right? Rivian got it partially right. All these others have this absurdly HUGE screen that look like a sideways tv leaning on the dash. The rest of the interior is this horizontal layout and looks good. But then you have that damn thing. looking all tacked on 5 minutes before unveiling, sticking out over the top of the dash like some backyard Bubba tried to hot-snot glue his kids' ipad over the radio, and it doesn't fit in. No attempt to make it fit, blend in, or even be oriented horizontally like nearly every damn thing else in there. And this is what Rivian got right. it looks like it was designed to be there. But they screwed the pooch on the other big gripe I have about the tacky, overgrown ipads haphazardly slapped in. No tactile sense with pictures of pretend buttons. Convoluted menus and submenus just to do something as simple as adjust the bass or treble on a stereo. All this effort to make and enforce laws and to levy fines on people playing with cellphones while driving, (Which I support, by the way) then all these companies give them what is basically a giant-ass cellphone that they HAVE to play with just to use BASIC vehicle functions. Like moving the friggin' air vents! ... Rivian!! (Going off on a tanget: but what I see happening to MANY Rivians is you get someone in there and they go to adjust the vent like people have been doing for 100 years. They manually move them. But being power operated, they don't move as easily so the person applies more effort. Thus stripping the little gears out or breaking the vanes Yeah, Rivian dropped that ball right on their toes.) Try tuning a radio on a bumpy or wavy road. (as most are in PA) Knobs buttons levers: Your hand has something to feel, grip onto and steady itself on. One quick glance, put your hand on it and move it. Done. Quick, with maybe a half second glance away from the road to locate the control. Screen. Look at screen. Call up a menu. Select the function. Look for the playtime-pretend "button". Then the bouncing and jostling of the vehicle also moves your hand. there's nothing to grip, or feel. So the drivers have to almost lean in and focus on actually hitting the correct spots on a dusty, finger smeared reflective hunk of glass, while subsequently hitting the Honda in front of them. Screens should be displays. NOT the sole means of control.

If everyone who currently has a car were required to have an EV, the power grid would have to expand by 500 times. An example is on Fords own website. If you use an existing 120v outlet, you get thee (3) miles per charging hour. If you and everyone else added a 50 watt circuit you can actually charge the battery overnight.....that 50 watt circuit is twice what your high usage appliances use currently. Check with an electrician to see how cheap it is to purchase the charging system from ford and then have the circuit installed. Then see how long it is before the power grid collapses and no one can heat or cool your house. The whole idea is laughable. Sure, I have nothing against EV vehicles if you want to spend between 50 and 100k on a car to drive back and forth to work. Other than that, the efficiency throughout the country is a pipe dream.

    • Specialopsdave

      Specialopsdave

      Acum 6 ore

50 watt? Do you even know what you're talking about? I think you mean 50 amp. Plus, that isn't even right, as a 240V 30 amp should do well too, and most electric dryers use that type of power anyways.

I wish Ford would get smart with the F350 and F450. We need a generator installed on the transmission PTO that will charge a battery pack that will power fifth wheel trailers while not at a campsite. It needs the same logic as the new Lightning. Put the emergency brake on, place the transmission in park or neutral, and enable the generator option. Te generator will charge a battery pack that can be installed under the truck or in the bed. The fifth wheel will pull power from the battery pack/inverter. When the battery pack gets low, the truck starts itself and enables the PTO turning the generator to recharge the battery pack. Seems too easy. I would buy it in a heart beat.
