I hope you can also take screenshots with the effect of FSR applied, as for example the "fidelity sharpening" that AMD offers is only like... a "monitor level" effect?... I mean, you see it on-screen in-game, but you don't see it in a screenshot as the screenshot is taken at a level "before" the sharpening. So it's like a post-processing kind of thing, which a screenshot doesn't catch. While this is a pity for sharpening, I hope the FSR will be more "baked in", like it's a part of the rendering and not a post-processing-level kind of effect.

I just commented about how much more consumer-friendly AMD is, but also their support and QoL is just great. - So I simply have a 5700, which is quite common as this... what, high-midrange card or something. - And I was playing games on it since like mid-2020, I think, and I thought the performance on more demanding games was... OK. - I mean, it was decent, not quite consistent 60fps in something like a recent tasking open-world game, I expected a bit more for my 330 Euros or whatever, but it was alright. - But as time passed, and some updates came along, I sometimes would just look into performance again, and noticed it would just be much better and more solid. (I have to add that games have also gotten updates, which probably helped, but still...) - I also noticed that more recently they added the ability to render at higher resolutions than your monitor's native resolution, like the option suddenly turned up in the game-settings, so I got options for 1620p and 2160p. So I tried 1620p (by 3840, because 21:9, at that) and it actually still runs well! - I was kinda blown away, but that helps a lot in the tightness of the image. - I suppose that FSR will be able to improve the quality beyond that with less of a performance-hit, but that improvement with just software-updates is impressive. - Yea, 4K isn't gonna happen on this card for the more demanding games, it really just chokes at that point (although, I think that also has largely to do with there not being enough memory). - I hope that I could even go as far as rendering at 1620p and then adding FSR; That would be neat.

To be honest; When I started looking into what GPU to get for a new system (in 2019), after having had the same one for years, I didn't give a crap what Nvidia had to offer over anyone else as I was so done with their pretense, not to mention higher prices in comparison to AMD, which was already making a comeback with their Radeon-cards at the time. - I just felt like you got much more "bang for the buck" with a Radeon, regardless of features like DLSS. And, well, ray-tracing was still kind of unattainable if you didn't have a strong enough card, which is also the reason AMD said they wouldn't release it until even cards below the highest-end could utilize ray-tracing properly. - So I decided to just go all-AMD and this was the right decision. - AMD is also once again trying to be consumer-friendly by being open with their tech, even moving it onto Nvidia's cards, much like they did with FreeSync compared to G-Sync. - And not to forget that Nvidia tried to keep the whole PhysX-thing exclusive, which was also a pain in the ass (even on their own cards, as it was just heavy to compute on anything less than high-end). - Screw Nvidia, seriously, I'm never looking back. I've had their cards since like GeForce 3 and 7000 series and 700 series, whatever. - As an adult, I don't like 'em...

Titan Fall 2 has this graphics option called dynamic resolution. it upscals the image from whatever your set resolution is and it bases the upscaling on your desired frame rate so like, if you turn it on and tell it you want say, 80fps. if 80fps is easy for your hardware to accomplish then the game will upscale itself by a lot while managing your frame rate. so basically, if you have really capable hardware, the upscaling goes off the charts and makes everything look sooo good. i wish that was built right into the driver so I could get every game to use that feature. Instead, I have to use radeon image sharpening + super-resolution on a lot of games and that's fine if you have capable hardware and if you do, man it looks amazing.

I've checked out FidelityFX. You know what is this? Nothing more than what nvidia filter does with sharpening filters, sorry to say. I'm using details filter (20/60/0/0 settings) since years. That is what it does basically makes the screen brightness/darkness level "wider" and sharpening the crap out of everything. I'm playing with SweetFX since 2004 like that and when Nvidia filters arrived we moved over more or less when supported games were available. Fidelity FX is nothing else, but I digress. :D

  53. H0 PE

    H0 PE

    Acum 2 Zile

@Jay: I'm not choosing Nvidia over AMD because of DLSS. I'm choosing them because of better game support, extra software/driver features -other than DLSS-, like I use Nvidia filters on games that is now supported on almost all games. And the fact that AMD gpu drivers are seriously lacking. Every time I read about it on forums, every time I had experience with amd gpus, I had serious problems with it. I remember when catalyst drivers arrived at the time I had dual gpu radeon card (cant remember the model anymore and can't find it on google lol). I couldn't play numerous titles with the two gpus enabled, had to just disable one gpu. Borderlands 2 was stuttering, vsync or nosync, didn't work properly. And the worse was that my electric bills went up with 20-30% just because of the driver change (no other electric appliance changed in the flat during that time). Since then when I moved to nvidia I had zero serious driver issues. Not in one game. Not with Gsync. My bills are less and less every year -and I'm serious on this-. Even when now I moved over to RTX3090 from 1070 I expected higher electric bills. To my surprised, its not true, even less than before. So I won't have amd driver lottery ever again I stick to Nvidia, based on my own experience.

The concern i have with AMD isnt the arguements for high end graphic benefits its sad issues like the driver rollout for 5700xt cards that resulted in months of black screens blue screens random crashes etc. Eventually after many DDU runs, AMD removal runs, Driver reinstalls etc only way I solved it was to create a new profile in windows 10 and magically it all worked then. Also have concerns when sad issues like poor thermal pad placements occur noting thats more resellers not AMD itself.

A friend of mine bought a 5700xt. It was unusable for two months. He previously had an rx580 and after black/purple screens, lock ups etc with the 5700xt, we put it back in and it worked perfectly. So after like three AMD driver revisions we tried the 5700xt again and it worked. The experience was terrible, but to AMD's credit, they regurlarly released drivers specifically to fix all those issues and at least on our case, it eventually got fixed.

Godfall was/is a PS5 launch title. Interestingly they recently announced it is going to launch on PS4. I have to assume being able to use FSR on the PS4 is what is letting them do that. It doesn't seem like the sort of game that would run well on 9 year old GPUs with out something like FSR. I expect CDprojectRed will also have a FSR patch... and be looking to start selling Cyberpunk for previous gen consoles as well. CDPR had fidelityfx coded in... I think there was probably a point where they expected AMD to have FSR ready for their 6800/PS5 launch. The whole CP last gen debacle probably has a bit to do with AMD being late on a promised FSR feature for launch. I just hope the delay was to make it a DLSS stomper... and that its really really ready for prime time now.
